Eboracum team praised by Police after two men arrested and large knife seized.

Two men were chased and arrested by police in York after being suspected of carrying knives.

The incident occurred yesterday (Saturday 26 July), when officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team, who were on foot patrol in the city centre, were alerted by BID Street Rangers to two suspicious males.

The pair were believed to be in possession of knives. Following a swift search of the area, both men were located, prompting a foot chase through the city and towards Skeldergate Bridge.

One man attempted to evade the police by jumping into the river but was safely detained as he came from the water.

The second man fled across the city walls before being detained moments later with assistance from Eboracum Security. He was found to be carrying a large kitchen knife.

Both men were arrested with the support of additional attending officers and have since been released on bail, under conditions that prohibit them from re-entering York while the investigation continues.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

“We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to our brilliant Eboracum York BID Street Rangers, Eboracum Security, the off-duty North Yorkshire Police officer, and the off-duty Metropolitan Police officer who all played key roles in bringing this incident to a safe and positive conclusion.”
